A Letter from our General Manager
We have blinked and we are halfway through 2026. We just wanted to give everyone an update on what is happening here at Niobrara Valley. To start things off, the operations department and line crews have been busy this spring putting on 47 new electric irrigation services. As I write this, we are under 10 left to construct and should have those ready by the end of May.
Our new substation project is moving along well. The transformer we ordered last summer will arrive by the end of May and will be installed in our O’Neill substation near our pole yard...

A Letter from our General Manager
It is crazy how time flies by. Just like that we put 2025 to rest and are off to the races in 2026. There was a lot accomplished in 2025 and still more to do in 2026. The biggest accomplishment mentioning again is a signed all requirements power contract that continues Niobrara Valley’s and Nebraska Public Power District’s partnership today and into the future. This contract provides the framework to provide low cost reliable electricity, not only to our members, but to all Nebraskans.

It has been a couple months since my last article and there has been a lot going on here at Niobrara Valley with general maintenance, new line builds for customers, preparing for next year’s irrigation season, implementing a new text messaging system to communicate with customers, switching annual billing accounts to monthly, and of course the biggest topic, the wholesale power contract with Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD).The first topic I am going to touch on is our annual billing accounts moving to monthly…

It has been a busy summer with a lot happening here at Niobrara Valley. Our focus this summer has been our new wholesale contract with NPPD, the purchase of a 10MVA transformer for our new substation, and a strategic plan with our board of directors. We’ve been working with NPPD for nearly two years on a new wholesale contract, and in July their board approved a draft for customers to sign. While not perfect, it offers flexibility for change and in some areas is as good, or better, than our current agreement. Key highlights include: an efficiency standard...

A Letter from our General Manager
There have been quite a few things happening here at Niobrara Valley Electric since my last newsletter. We just received our draft audit for 2024 with no concerns. The audit will be ready for the board to approve at our June board meeting.
Irrigation season is upon us, and has been busy as always. We currently have connected 43 new irrigation services for the 2025 season. To serve these, we constructed 12 miles of new three-phase line. Currently, we have roughly 130 on a list waiting to be served. To accommodate the 130 new irrigation services, we are...

A Letter from our General Manager
2024 turned out to be a very busy year with irrigators converting to electric, new home services, and general maintenance that included breaker testing, load testing, infrared scans of our system, and annual pole testing. All that is a yearly process but what also came from 2024 is continued negotiations with NPPD for a long-term wholesale contract and a rate study that was completed by CFC. I am going to talk about the latter two in depth along with what I see coming in 2025 and beyond.

Notice of an Upcoming Rate Increase
It has been a very busy last couple of months here at Niobrara Valley Electric (NVE). Irrigation went deep into September this year due to our dry conditions; harvest was also fast and furious for the same reasons. Now that the summer load has fallen off, we are busy doing our yearly planned maintenance projects along with determining how many new irrigation services we will be able to take on for the 2025 season. As of today, we have 160 irrigation services on a list waiting to be served. We are projecting around 40 of those being able to be served in...
