Goodwill Fund Scholarships
In 1999 the Goodwill Fund Board of Directors selected the first student in the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation service territory to receive a $500 scholarship. Since this first scholarship, the Board has continued to award an increasing number of deserving students with a scholarship. SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
A few select scholarships will be awarded to any member of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation, or their immediate family, attending a post-secondary institution of the student’s choice. Scholarship amounts may vary year to year due to the fluctuating balance in the Goodwill Fund and will be determined by the discretion of the Goodwill Fund Board of Directors.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Board of Directors of the Niobrara Valley Electric Goodwill Fund, in consultation with the Guidance Counselors of the student’s school, will comprise the Selection Committee.
APPLICATION
Applications will be available at the Niobrara Valley EMC office in O’Neill and copies will be made available to the schools listed below. The schools shall notify seniors of this scholarship. The deadline for applications will be March 8th. Applications may be turned in at the school or the cooperative office. The following schools will have scholarship applications available: Boyd County High School, Chambers High School, Niobrara High School, O'Neill High School, St. Mary's High School, Stuart High School and West Holt High School.
STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
1. The student or their parents must be a member of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation.
2. The student must be a high school graduate.
3. The student must be in the upper 2/3 of their graduating class, or
4. The student must have at least an overall Grade Point Average of a “C” or 2.0 on a 4.0 scale at the end of the 7th semester of their high school studies or at the end of their most recent semester at a post secondary institution.
5. The student must attend an accredited college, community college, or vocational school the next term following their graduation from high school. If the student is already attending an eligible institution, then the scholarship must be used for the student’s next term.
6. A student may receive this scholarship more than once only if all eligible applicants are prior scholarship recipients.
7. The student must submit their application to their School Guidance Counselor or turn it in at the office of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation on or before March 8th.
ALTERNATE SELECTION
If the primary recipient of the scholarship does not accept it or fails to attend an accredited college, community college, or vocational school the scholarship will be awarded to an alternate. The alternate must meet all of the requirements of the scholarship to be eligible.
PAYMENT
At the beginning of the recipient’s school term, a check for the scholarship will be issued to the institution which the student is attending.

2023 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
The recipients of the 2023 Goodwill Fund Scholarships have been selected. Due to the quality of the twenty-two applicants and the availability of funds, the board chose to award seven $1,000 scholarships this year. This year’s recipients are listed below. The Niobrara Valley Electric Goodwill Fund board would like to congratulate all the scholarship winners and wish them the best of luck in pursuit of their respective careers.
Trenadi is the daughter of Justin & Shawna Dodds and Paul & Jennifer Hipke. The Stuart Public School graduate was involved in Volleyball, FFA, Student Council, Dance Team and Stuart 4th of July Committee for all four years of her high school career. She also participated in one year of Media Productions and three years of Play Production. Trenadi plans to attend University of Nebraska-Kearney and major in Special Education. One of her largest goals is to get a job right after college and be able to connect on a personal and professional level with all of her students.
- Lillian is the daughter of Mark & April Dexter. The Chambers Public School graduate was involved in various extracurriculars including FFA, FCCLA, Speech, One Act, Cheer, Golf, 4-H, 4-H Council, Student Council and being a member of the Chambers Community Church of Christ. Within those she received many awards, medals and honors. Some include being on all A and B Honor Roll, Cheer Captain, Vice President of Student Council, Vice President of Heartland 4-H Club and many state medals in both Speech and One Act. Lillian plans to attend Wayne State College and major in Psychology.
Olivia is the daughter of Frederick & Ann Holz. The Niobrara Public School graduate was involved in Volleyball, Speech, One Act and Band all four years. She was also in Choir for one year, Skills USA and Powerlifting for two years and did Basketball Videography for three years. Olivia has also put her education as a top priority and was on Honor Roll all four years, was a member of National Honor Society for three years, received NCPA Academic All State, NSAA Multi Activity Student awards, Nebraska Girls State Recipient, and received many awards in Speech and Drama. She is also certified in Word and Adobe Photoshop. Olivia plans to attend University of South Dakota in Vermillion this fall and major in Nursing.
Karina is the daughter of Marty & Larisa Larson. The Chambers Public School graduate was involved in extracurricular activities including Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country, Boost and FFA. In FFA Karina earned many degrees including the Discovery Degree, Greenhand Degree, Chapter Degree and the State Degree. Karina plans to attend Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE and major in Livestock Management. She hopes to one day return to her family ranch and take part in running the operation.
Sarah is the daughter of Randy & Kim Wallinger. The Stuart High School graduate was involved in extracurricular activities including Volleyball, Basketball, FFA, National Honor Society, Play Production, Student Council, Media Production, and Yearbook Staff. Some of her achievements include Honor Roll, 2nd place in Accounting at the Norfolk Scholastic Competition, All-Star Award for Basketball, 3rd in Landscape Management, two time State qualifying Volleyball team member and earning State Degree in FFA. Her educational goal is to attend University of Nebraska-Lincoln and major in Business Marketing.
Lawrence is the son of Montie & LaDonna Werth. The St. Mary’s High School graduate was involved in extracurricular activities including Football, Wrestling, One Act, Cardinal Buddy, LaSalle House, being a Teacher Aid, 4-H and multiple community service projects. Some of his acheivements include Football Team Captain for two years, Vice President of 4-H Club for one year, Honor Roll for five semesters, lettered in Football and Wrestling for two years and was a Qualifier for State Fair. Lawrence’s educational goal is to attend Northeast Community College and major in Auto Service Technician.
Kade is the son of Brian Hubel & Kendrea Youngblood. The Chambers High School graduate was involved in extracurricular activities including Football Student Manager, FCCLA, FFA, 4-H Shooting Sports and being a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and Youth Group. Some of his acheivements include FCCLA State and National Qualifier in Agronomy and being on the A-B Honor Roll. Kade’s educational goal is to attend Northeast Community College and major in Diesel Technology-Agriculture. He hopes to return to Holt County after college and open his own diesel repair business.
